We have made our first sale!

Things are moving much slower than I thought they would. But in the end I think it will all be for the best. Mother Nature's Beauty has made it's first official sale :) yeah! I think everything should be complete by the end of September...then I can focus more on writing articles and educating the public about the good and bad of the beauty industry.
I can't wait until things really start moving! It is all so exciting and interesting. Work just doesn't seem like work when you feel like what you're doing truly matters. I am very blessed to get so much joy out of my work. Thanks!

Triclosan...not so good!

So I just finished an article for www.mothernaturesbeauty.com about this chemical called Triclosan. This stuff is bad news! What's even worse is that the FDA has reported that it doesn't even do anything! So why is it in face cream, deodorant and a multitude of other beauty products?
Check the article out on my site to find out more, and to access products that do not contain these harmful chemicals.

Website design is oh, so HARD,!

So I thought i would be able to have the site up and running within a month. I think it may take a bit longer though. There is just so much I want to include and so much research to do. It will definitely be worth it in the end though. Mother Nature's Beauty will be a wonderful site and will fill a huge void in the market. There are sites that educate, sites that sell, and sites that focus on the environment but we will be doing all three. I can't wait for everyone to see it...SOON!

Don't Fear the Avocado

If you start to search the web for more in depth research on natural beauty you may end up pretty confused as to what is safe and what is unsafe. Some sites make it seem that everything on the market is B A D for you. As you know I am starting a website to help us figure out just what is safe and what is truly too risky for us to be applying to our bodies.
Would you use a product that was reported as being potentially toxic to humans and a known irritant? What if this product were 100% natural, approved by the FDA, proven safe for human ingestion and proven to be wonderful for the skin. Confused? The product I am talking about is avocado oil. Derived from a fruit that is not scary by any stretch of the imagination yet if you believe what you read on some web sites you would avoid it like the plague.
So why is there so much confusion in the beauty industry and why are there groups out there that seem to be trying to scare the public? They claim to be helping but in my opinion they are causing a lot more damage and a lot of unnecessary fear.
Check out the blog tomorrow for more clarity on the confusion.
In the mean time ...DON'T FEAR THE AVOCADO!!!

Beautifully Natural

I am starting a website called www.mothernaturesbeauty.com.
Originally it was going to be about living a green lifestyle, but now I have decided to narrow my focus to simply cover health and beauty. Once this site is running smoothly I will create a sister site focusing on other green lifestyle elements.
The reason why I have decided to focus in on one area of green living is actually a bit disturbing to me. When I began to research different products I wanted to feature on my site I made a startling discovery...nothing I was finding fit into my criteria. It wasn't that my criteria (safe, natural products that do what they claim and are good for the environment) was too stringent, it was that none of the products I found were living up to their advertised claims.
I found this wonderful website www.cosmeticsdatabase.com. It breaks down products ingredients lists and tells consumers which products are good, bad and just plain scary. To my surprise some of the worst offenders were the products the media had taught me were my healthy options.
One of the product lines I had wanted to offer on my site were the ABBA products. According to their website (www.pureabba.com) they offer customers the "Power of Pure". They go on to state, "Our commitment to purity begins with creating products that are 100% vegan & free of synthetic dyes. All-natural ingredients that us help preserve the world we live in. That's as pure as it gets."
With a bit of digging you discover that not only have they failed to sign the Compact for Safe Cosmetics, (check out their site: http:safecosmetics.live2.radicaldesigns.org or find them on Facebook) they also use ingredients that studies have shown may cause cancer, developmental/reproductive toxicity, neurotoxicity, organ system toxicity, wildlife and environmental toxicity and are restricted or recommended restricted in cosmetics. All of this from a company that touts themselves "as pure as it gets". You may also want to note that this is their best rated product ABBA Pure Volume Shampoo, which received a 6 out of 10 rating and has been classified as a "moderate hazard". (www.cosmeticsdatabase.com)
So you'd assume that their is just no way to get all of the harmful ingredients out of shampoo...ABBA is "as pure as it gets:...right? Wrong! There are over 100 products that received a "0" rating, meaning there are absolutely no ingredients that are even questionable, and almost 300 products that receive a rating below a "3" meaning they have ingredients that are considered to be low hazards.
My mission is simple; educate the public and offer them a safe place to purchase products that are actually safe and natural. Everyone has the right to feel naturally beautiful...naturally.
